An Apple A Month

WIM’s Meet The Innovator monthly conversation series started in January with a discussion on Social TV (this series is a new partnership we have forged with Apple). If you missed attending these “Meet The Innovators” conversations at the Apple Store (SoHo), here are the links to our recent podcasts:

  • January 30: with Nancy Jo, VP of digital strategy and business development, Bravo Digital Media; Carlota Espinosa, founder of Styloot; and Kathleen Utecht, senior associate, Comcast Ventures. Hear why Bravo is leading the new frontier of consumer engagement in social TV, and learn how partnerships with startups like Styloot make it easier for viewers to shop their favorite shows.

  • March 6: with Chris Fralic, partner at First Round Capital, and Rachel Silver, senior manager of social media at Birchbox. With the consumption of video skyrocketing, will video and social sharing create the next great wave of startup innovation? Listen in and get the insider’s take on these developments in video.

A Date To be Saved.

Our next Meet The Innovators at the SoHo Apple Store is on Tuesday, April 16 at 6:30 pm and features Brad Feld, managing director at Foundry Group and co-founder of TechStars (and author of numerous books, including “Startup Communities: Building An Entrepreneurial Ecosystem in Your City” and Alessandro Piol, co-founder of Vedanta Capital (and co-author of just released “Tech and the City: The Making of New York’s Startup Community”).

What’s Behind The Pitch????

Does the startup community need another pitch event….we didn’t think so, however, we do see the need for a market-focused startup pitch event that provides insights and information on fund raising and financing of startup ventures. And a few others in the startup community think so too: Entrepreneurs Roundtable Accelerator, Dreamit Ventures, Digital Undivided, TiE New York, Astia, New York Angels, Golden Seeds, Xconomy, AlleyWatch, Pipeline Fellowship and others are partnering with us, Third Wave Fashion and New York Tech Women on Monday, April 22 at AppNexus for our first Behind The Pitch event. More details (and to RSVP to attend) here.

Know of a startup that should pitch in front of VCs and Angels at Behind The Pitch? The application is on F6S and the deadline to apply for the opportunity to pitch is March 31.

A $40.00 Tablet?

WIM’s next Founders Breakfast is on Wednesday, April 24 and features the mastermind behind the world’s cheapest tablet, Suneet Singh Tuli, CEO of Datawind. Special thanks to TiE New York and New York Tech Women for partnering with us on this breakfast.
